About Us

Murrungundy Pistachios is a small orchard that is run by new owners Peter and Lynne Fleming and their son Hugh. It is on the historic “Murrungundy” farm at Elong Elong, which is half way between Dubbo and Dunedoo in Central West NSW. The orchard is only about an 1 hour north of Mudgee and 35 minutes from Wellington.

The Murrungundy Pistachios business was set up by Richard and Diana Barton and is based on the mature orchard that Richard and his father Hugh initiated in 1979. They propagated rootstock seeds sourced from California USA, and the pistachio wood for grafting from CSIRO stock. With a lot of trial and error along the way the orchard now has about 3,500 mature Pistachio Nut trees. While it took 12 years before the trees delivered up their first harvest of grape-like nut clusters, the trees are well established and yield qualtity nuts.

Pistachio Nuts, originally from Afghanistan, are well suited to the Central West climate, and under the right conditions, can live and produce for 50-100 years. Pistachio Nut Trees thrive on extreme weather conditions. With frosty nights in winter and long hot summers (to ripen the nuts), the climate in our region is similar to that where pistachio trees originated.

Murrungundy nuts have found their way into some of Sydney’s top restaurants and are regular features at conference hampers. We have supplemented our big sellers, Natural, Salted and Pistachio Nuts, with a range of boutique flavours, namely Salt & Vinegar, Salt & Pepper, Chilli and Curry Pistachios, and Pistachio Dukkah from our special recipe.

Our Murrungundy Pistachio products are mouth watering and are will compliment any gift basket or gift list. Not to forget the home gourmet chef, we have Murrungundy Pistachio Kernels, which is a highlight of any recipe.

Pistachio nuts are a staple food for many people and Murrungundy Pistachios offer a shopping experience that is deliciously addictive, exciting and offer an ever-expanding variety of affordable products.

In the interests of good waste management, we are introducing recyclable packs for Murrungundy Pistachio Nuts and reuse boxes and packaging whenever possible. We hope you enjoy our produce.
